  • Indefinite leave to remain residence - time spent in the UK under this route can be counted towards the residency requirement.
  • There is no minimum investment requirement of £50,000.

How does the innovator
founder visa work?

By applying for the innovator founder route, successful applicants can bring their business plans to life in the UK.

You will be permitted to work for the business you founded as well as to work for another employer if the role requires a skill level of at least RQF Level 3, equivalent to UK A Levels.

After three years, innovator founders are granted permission to work and live in the UK, after which they can apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR), known as a settlement if they meet the relevant requirements.

Under a dependant visa, your immediate family members can also accompany you or follow you to the UK. Included in this are your partner and any dependent children. During their stay, your family members will be allowed to work in any field, including self-employment and voluntary work, except as a sportsperson or coach. Studies can also be pursued by them.

The Innovator Founder Visa Application Process

Under the new innovator founder route, the applicant must have received an endorsement letter from an authorised endorsing body no more than three months before application. Online applications require this letter and any other documentation.

The new innovator founder route does not differ significantly from the previous start-up and innovator routes, but the endorsement letter must state that the applicant's business idea or business meets the new requirements, including a statement that the source of funding is legitimate.

Innovator Founder endorsement

An authorized body must endorse your application for the innovator founder route. The endorsement can only be provided by organizations authorized by the Home Office. Home Office provides a list of authorized organizations, including:

  • Investors Limited
  • UK Endorsing Services
  • Innovator International
  • The Global Entrepreneurs Programme (GEP)

Legacy governing bodies can still provide endorsements to innovator visa applicants who entered the scheme before April 13, 2023. They will only endorse applicants with the same business idea.
